Trenching and Excavation Fundamentals
This lesson focuses on the trenching and excavation responsibilities of the Competent Person at a construction jobsite. After completing this lesson, participants should be able to: recognize the different soil types, identify the types of visual and manual testing for determining soil types, recognize the issues to consider when choosing a protective system, identify the OSHA-required sloping angles for excavating in different soil types, and identify the characteristics of shoring and shielding systems.
